SWEEP Blog: 1million women in STEM

I first heard about the 1Million Women in STEM (1MWIS) programme when I was nominated by another member of our lab group.

I have always been passionate about encouraging more women to enter the STEM (science, technology, engineering and maths) subjects, as so many potentially talented minds in these fields never get the opportunity to shine due to societal expectation, or because they are seen as “male” professions. Being part of this group to provide role models, and a multitude of visible and thriving women in STEM is a fantastic privilege. The process involved an online interview, on which an online profile was made, which can be found here: https://www.1mwis.com/profiles/Cara-Patel.

The 1MWIS website now features over 2,500 profiles of women from 250 different career pathways, and it’s got some really inspiring interviews with female leaders, pioneers, inventors, and experts for you read at: www.1mwis.com
